Frequently asked questions
Can I install the feed dispenser myself without being particularly handy?
Being handy always helps 🙂 – but HayBots are delivered with clear instructions, so everyone should be able to manage just fine. In case of questions, you are welcome to contact us directly.
How should the Haybot be secured?
The HayBot should be placed outside the paddock, with the feed box inside the paddock. It’s important that the machine stands on a solid surface and is anchored so that it cannot be tipped over. It’s also possible to secure HayBot to a fence or post.
Can the feed dispenser stay outdoors year-round?
Yes, HayBots are built to be outdoors all year. It withstands rain, wind, snow, and cold weather.
Does the machine use a lot of electricity? No, quite the opposite. The solar panel and battery are sufficient to power HayBot even in low sunlight or cold winter conditions. No direct power connection is required.
Is it easy to set the timer?
The timer is very intuitive. Instructions are provided on how to set your preferences. It’s simple to adjust it when the days become longer or shorter. You can program it so feed portions are served at the same time each weekday, but perhaps a bit later on weekends.
Can I try a Haybot before I buy it?
You can rent a HayBot from us if you want to test whether it suits you and your horse. You can also visit one of our retailers for a demonstration.
Can HayBots be used indoors?HayBots are a highly flexible solution that doesn’t need to be connected to a power source. It’s perfectly fine to move a HayBot Pro (for multiple feedings) into a stall corner, e.g., if a horse is recovering. HayBot Flexi can serve the first portion of forage at dawn, so the hay or haylage is eaten peacefully before concentrate feed and the horse is let out.
When should I fill a HayBot?
HayBots are configured so you can refill the feeding compartments whenever it suits you. The automatic feeder senses which shelf is next to drop and always selects the closed compartment at the bottom. Simply fold up the dropped shelves once they opened and refill—it’s that easy. HayBot does the rest.
Can two horses share one HayBot?
HayBot Flexi and HayBot Pro are designed for one horse, though some horses do share the same feed box. Often, however, horses in the same paddock each have their own HayBot. With HayBot DIY (coming soon), you can choose the size you need and easily integrate the components into your own custom design—even for bigger solutions, like two horses or very large animals.
Can I also use a Haybot for other animals?
Absolutely. Although HayBot was originally designed for horses, it can also be used for other animals such as llamas, donkeys, or sheep.
How large are the feed portions you can load into a HayBot?
With a HayBot Pro featuring three shelves, you can load up to 6–8 kilos of hay or haylage (about 150 liters) per shelf.
Does the machine come with a warranty?
Of course. The warranty is valid for one year and covers mechanical and electrical faults on the HayBot. It only applies if the HayBot has been installed outside the horse’s fence, according to the instructions in the manual. It does not cover normal wear and tear or damage caused by the horse.
Could my horse accidentally destroy the Haybot?
HayBots are sturdy and robust, but they can’t always withstand kicking and biting from a horse. We recommend mounting the HayBot outside the fence with the feed box inside the paddock.
Where can I order spare parts?

Is HayBot an environmentally friendly option?
